2013 - June 27th Meeting

The June 27th meeting was a success as far as getting all the blocks completed for the third service quilt. But before all the sewing action began the meeting started out with some show and tell.

Marsha brought in her completed star quilt...

and her vine flowers applique quilt.

Chris brought in a table runner,

and what would be a bed runner that she converted into a couch runner. Chris added some ties to the back of the runner and uses on her leather couch.

George even stopped by to pick up our third service quilt. George was telling the ladies on how well received the first quilt has been doing and all of the positive replies he has been getting from the families of his patrons.

Second service project completed.

As mentioned earlier the progress for our third service project has been well under way.

Progress on the Third service project

All attending to pull in together and completed all the available blocks. Great team work ladies!

Very little business was discussed. The one major business topic at the moment is for the next meeting, all members who want to participate in the Secret Sister Christmas Exchange please have your half yard ready if you all ready have not done so. We will be exchanging the bags with the half yard of fabric at the next meeting!  Also for the next meeting we will continue working on the third service project. Again please bring all supplies to complete this project.

Until next time...

Happy Quilting!

2013 - May 23rd Meeting

Second Service Quilt

Our May 23rd meeting was a productive meeting. First we do want to say thank you to all the ladies involved with making our second service project quilt. As shown above is the completed quilt top. We would also like to thank Chris Porter for being able to finish off the quilt with her long arm machine.

There was very little business to discuss except the passing out of the brown paper lunch bags for the Secret Sister Christmas exchange. If any member was unavailable to attend the May 23rd meeting and would still like to participate in the exchange please come to the next meeting with your half yard of fabric or contact Yvonne to receive a bag.

As for the rest of the meeting the ladies worked productively on accomplishing a third service quilt.

Workshop Meeting 5/23/13

Workshop meeting 5/23/13

Every one worked diligently while having a good laugh or too in each others company. When the meeting was over the blocks were nearly assembled and what was left over to finish was left up to the attending member to take home to complete and then to bring back to the June 12th meeting. A quick announcement and reminder to our member that the June 12th meeting will be a short business meeting. IT is asked of any attending members to please bring your sewing machines, rotary cutter, cutting mats, iron, and ironing boards.

Until next time....Happy Quilting Everyone!

2013 - May 8th Meeting

Our May 8th meeting was straight to the point in the following business proceedings.

We confirmed that we will have our annual quilt show on November 2nd at the Methodist Church here in New London. Hometown Holidays was discussed and there was talk about still needing to confirm a table for the Hielman Building. Also there was a brief discussion on what products to make to sell. We know for sure that small Christmas type items will sell, so if you are available to start in on your sale Christmas items go for it. As a reminder fabric companies are now releasing their current Christmas fabric lines to the public and are currently now available in stores.

Also we know its only May but before you know it September 26th will be here faster than you know it. Do you have your Pint Chips Challenge project in the works yet? If not what are you waiting on? Remember you have to keep it a secret of what you are working on until the reveal date of September 26th!

Our service project update: The second quilt for Eastmans is nearly completed. All it needs is the sashing and border added to it and then it can be quilted and bound. Which leads us to start on the next service quilt for the next workshop meeting. We will be working on making a jelly roll quilt (the Missouri Star Quilt Co. pattern) from the left overs of the second service quilt. This quilt will also be going to Eastmans once it is completed.

Also for the next meeting members will be receiving a small brown paper bag for the secret sister Christmas exchange. In this bag you will be placing a 1/2 yard of your own fabric to be exchanged for your Christmas gift. We have also decided to not only add your name to the bag but to add your style, ex: Country, primitive  modern, etc. Along with being interested in receiving items such as a table runner, place mats, small wall hanging, a purse and so on just to help your fabric receiver along in case they do not know you all that well.

While the business end of the meeting closed we then moved on to show and tell.

Rachenea had brought in a bag that she had made and embroidered.

Rachenea's Bag

Here is what the inside of that Rachenea's bag looked like! We loved that crazy black and white print Rachenea!

The inside of Rachenea's bag

Carol had brought in her Jelly roll block. We really loved the color combination for this block Carol! Also this block is what we will be doing for the next service quilt.

Carol's Jelly roll Block

Lastly Chris P. had completed a teddy bear quilt for a new arrival. Very adorable Chris. Brooke even thinks so too!

Well that is all every one until next time....

2013 April 25th Meeting

The April 25th meeting was a relaxed and laid back kind of meeting night. Since it was a workshop meeting night we started out with show and tell.

Our first share of the evening was from Regina. Regina does a lot of embroidery by machine, and this beautiful bag that Regina had made shows off her embroidery work!

Picture 2108

Our second share was from Lynette. Lynette had made a table runner from the left over blocks of the log cabin quilt that she made for her granddaughter. This table runner will be for her daughter.

Picture 2110

Our third and final share was from two of our members, Marcia and Jennifer. Both ladies completed the cathedral widows that was taught to them by Doris at the Sew-in on April 20th.

Jennifer's is on the left and Marcia's is on the right.

Picture 2109

Once show and tell was over the ladies got down to business of continuing on of making our service quilt.

Here is Regina making sure that every cut is precise.

Picture 2113

And Chris K. is chain piecing all the blocks together!

Picture 2112

Although we may look like we are super serious about making this quilt, in which we kind of are! The ladies or we also have a good time in each other's company. There were tons of great stories told that generated a lot of laughter to go around.

Picture 2111

Our accomplishment of the evening was not only having a good time in laughter but we even managed to get farther ahead in getting this quilt completed.

Until next time, Happy Quilting!

2013 Spring Sew-In and Workshop

Our Spring Sew-In and Workshop started of well and ended well. We had a few guest who came to learn with us and in the end of it all everyone had a wonderful time! We even learned that Sponge Bob Square Pants speaks with an Irish accent in Ireland too!

Our classes for the day started with Chris Porter. Chris had demonstrated the Missouri Star Quilt Company's Amazing Jelly Roll Quilt pattern by 3 Dudes. Chris even went on to demonstrate how to make a disappearing nine patch as well.

If you are interested in learning the patterns that Chris demonstrated for her classes you can click on the links below.

Our second class of the day was taught by Doris. Doris had demonstrated a disappearing four patch.

Here is Doris starting off by cutting the all ready sewn four patches.

Doris even demonstrated how to make a Cathedral Windows block all done by hand stitching.

This photo is showing the stitches that are tacking down the middle corners of the window.

Doris is showing us that your stitches have to be just at the fold of the fabric to make the seams come together.

Connecting the window bases

Inserting the stained glass if you will and stitching it in place.

Making the window hinges

As you can see the cathedral window block is great for using up scrap fabrics. Doris has been making these through out the last year. She had said that she had found the starter windows in a yard sale.

Picture 2083

As mentioned earlier we had a few guest that came to learn with us. One of our guest Bonnie from Brighton, had made each member a card made by placing fabric on the front of the card. We all happen to think that was one of the sweetest jesters of the day. Thank you so much Bonnie for sharing!

Guest apperication

Our last class demonstration was taught by Lynette. Lynette had shown the all the members and our guest how to paper piece.

Lynette teaching paper piecing

Lynette is cutting away the excess fabric so that it will not show behind the new layered piece but making user that there is a quarter inch seam for the next piece for when the paper will be removed.

In between classes and once class demonstrations were finished our members focused on getting our next service project going. We managed to get one block complete along with almost completing a second block.

Which we will start up again at the next meeting. We wanted to take a moment and thank everyone involved at our Sew-In and Workshop. Without your efforts our day would have not as successful. Again thank you so, sew much!

2013 April 10th Meeting

Our April 10th meeting we covered the final plans for the April 20th Sew-In and Workshop that will take place that the New London United Methodist Church basement. As a reminder we hosted our first Sew-In and Workshop the same time last year and here a couple of photo of Sue and Yvonne teaching their classes.

Hawiian Quilting with Sue

Applique with Yvonne

This year's Sew-In and Workshop will have fewer lessons and more time behind the sewing machine. As a guild, everyone decided that there were too many lessons at last years Sew-In and not enough time behind a sewing machine to call it a "Sew-In". This year however, in between the five lessons guild members will be working on a community service project. It is asked of guild members who are attending this event to arrive at the church by 8:30 am to help set up. Since we will be ordering our lunch out from Pizza Explosion. Please bring money for lunch, $7.00 per person attending will do. The last item of business for the Sew-In and Workshop is for the members who have volunteered to teach please do contact Yvonne for a schedule time. A few of you who volunteered to teach were not at the meeting to vouch for your own time slot.

Our last order of business was brought up by Chris Porter who asked if any of the members would be interested in a wool felting class. Chris had mention to ask Holly Shelly to teach the class as well and all members agree.

On to Show and Tell!!!!

Our first show and tell for the night was brought in by Lynnette. Lynnette had made this log cabin quilt for her granddaughter. This quilt in person is very stunning!

Lynette's Log cabin Quilt

Next Yvonne had made this reversible purse. The bottom of the purse is reversible, and those Scotty dogs in the print are so cute!

Yvonne's reversible Purse

Our last member to show and tell was Chris P. Chris had attended the Sewing and Quilting Expo in Cleveland where she bought this Primitive Gatherings wall hanging that is changeable for four seasons. That bunny is so adorable!!!

Chris P's Changeable Wall hanging

Here is what the rest of the panels of the wall hanging looks like if you are interested in buying the pattern.

Lastly, Chris had a leaf table runner where she quilted the runner first than appliqued the leaves onto the runner.

With that said and done the main event for the night was our member showing off their quilts and telling the stories behind them.

Doris was the first member up to share her quilt top. This quilt is a disappearing four patch. If you are interested in  learning how to make it Doris will be teaching this pattern at the April 20th Sew-In/ Work Shop
