What a start to the new year! First off we wanted to welcome Carolyn Hunter for stopping by to check us out. Carolyn we hope to see you again! Second we wanted to send well wishes to Lynette and Regina, and hope to see you both soon when life is treating you a bit better.
The business part of this meeting was about planning events for the 2013 year. Not to mention wrapping up everything from the previous year. For those of you who were involved with the secret service project the quilt was well received by Eastman's Funeral Home and have been put to use since they received it. The next service project was discussed and with the next quilt to be made it is preferred that it will be done in Primitive Americana colors. So if you can check your stash for your darker reds, tans, and blues!
The next up coming event is the 1 Million Pillowcase Challenge which is hosted by All People Quilt or better known as American Patchwork Magazine. The guild will be teaching the older Girl Scouts how to sew these pillow cases. Once the pillowcases are finished and recorded into the APQ challenge registry all the pillowcases will be sent to Cincinnati's Children's Hospital. This event will take place on January 24, 2013. See side bar for more information.
Looking ahead for 2013 was to have the Spring Workshop/Sew-in, which it was agreed to have it held in April. More information to follow.
Year event suggestions were a paint chip challenge, A Home of the Brave quilts to be made for the fallen, and a casserole carrier. More suggestions are always welcome.
The quilt show date was discussed and everyone was leaning towards November 2, 2013.
Hometown Holidays was also discussed and it was also agreed upon to get the ball rolling on getting a table at the Hielman Building.
Last but not least, a couple of member were quite busy over the holidays and have some finished projects to share.
Starting with Chris Porter.
Chris had this Adorable snowman table runner
This appliqued wall hanging.
A Valentine's Quilt top.
A star block of the month (BOM) which she made with corresponding back and forth with her sister. Chris' sister lives out of state.
Craftsy's 2012 BOM.
Marlene was our next member to show off her finishes.
Marlene had completed Jeni Baker's Drawstring bag.
And a tote bag which she used on a retreat cruise.
Marlene also had a finished quilt but this writer was not quick on her feet to get a photo of it. :( So sorry!
That wraps it up for this meeting!
Hope to see you soon!
Happy Quilting,
New London Quilt Guild
