2013 - August 22nd Meeting

This past meeting was a workshop meeting where we made some headway on the last service quilt. The ladies worked in unison and conversed at the same time. Very little of business was discussed, however, there was a discussion to decide on our location for the Christmas exchange and dinner. It was agreed that we would meet at the church and have a pot luck dinner at our last meeting of the year. Another topic for discussion was the September 26th meeting. The Laurels Nursing home had asked if the members would like to demonstrate and discuss quilting to the residents. It was agreed upon that we would except their offer and on the night of September 26th at 7:00 pm we will met at the Laurels Nursing Home formally the Firelands Rehabilitation Center on the west side of New London.

Our show and tell was festive in the seasons. Chris Porter had completed a few small quilts that got us all geared up the for fall season with this pumpkin table topper.

Chris had said to us not to mind the applique showing through on the back. We are all good with it Chris! They all look great!

Before long the time had flown by and it was time to go until the next meeting. But before we all left we said farewell to our snowbird Marsha for another winter season. Where did the tine go? Marsha just arrived so it seemed like. Anyway, Marsha if you are reading this we hope you are well and looking for your return in the spring.

Well everyone that concludes this meeting.

Until next time.... Happy Quilting!

2013 - July 25th Meeting

Welcome everyone!

Its good to see you again!

If you have noticed it has been pretty quiet here on our blog due to forces of nature in which we as a guild could not foresee or prevent from happening. Our last meeting was canceled due to a severe storm that had tornadoes and flooding. Needless to say most of us had not seen each other in a while. During the time between the last meeting and this meeting many of us have been quite busy.

Lynette finished a spring time wall hanging from Shabby Fabrics

Picture 2129

Doris finished her quilt top from the class that Chris P. held over a year ago from the Missouri Star Quilt Company's Three Dudes pattern.

Picture 2130

Chris P. had a few samples made up from her class and turned her samples into a a wall hanging.

Picture 2131

Chris presented the guild with a few more show and tells.

Picture 2132

Picture 2133

Carol who has had her sampler in the works for quite some time showed off her finished quilt. Carol had Chris P. quilt it on Chris's quilting machine.

Picture 2134

We welcomed a new member Rachel. Rachel was co-owner of Sew Little Time Quilt shop in Norwalk, and she has been on the road selling her wears from the shop at the Sewing and Quilting Expos across the country. Rachel is also a long arm machine quilter and does custom quilting for other quilters. You can find Rachel at Sew Behind for more information.

Here is an example of Rachel's work.

Marsha had a small share that could hold your most beloved treasures with her purses.

And our last share of the evening was from Yvonne. Yvonne had completed this 2011 Marcus Brothers Civil War block of the month.

As for business news:

We briefly discussed Hometown Holidays, and reminded everyone to be on the ball of their small sale items. We also briefly discussed the upcoming quilt show on November 2nd, and reminded everyone that the paint chip challenge date of September 26th is quickly approaching. At this meeting we passed out and exchanged our secret sister bags for our Christmas exchange in December. There was also a discussion of the service quilt in process and one last quilt to be made into a baby quilt. An idea was brought up by Jennifer of using a glorified nine patch block. The idea behind it was to use up all the light colored nine patch block from the first service quilt that did not get used. The idea was approved and if any member has any time to contribute any pastel or light muted fabrics to make 6" nine patches consisting of 2 1/2" squares or to make the nine patches a head of time it would be greatly appreciated.

Well, that is all for this meeting, until next time...

Happy Quilting!

2013 - June 27th Meeting

The June 27th meeting was a success as far as getting all the blocks completed for the third service quilt. But before all the sewing action began the meeting started out with some show and tell.

Marsha brought in her completed star quilt...

Marsha's star quilt

and her vine flowers applique quilt.

Marsha's Applique quilt

Chris brought in a table runner,

Chris's table runner

and what would be a bed runner that she converted into a couch runner. Chris added some ties to the back of the runner and uses on her leather couch.

Chris' couch seat runner

George even stopped by to pick up our third service quilt. George was telling the ladies on how well received the first quilt has been doing and all of the positive replies he has been getting from the families of his patrons.

Second service project completed.

As mentioned earlier the progress for our third service project has been well under way.

Progress on the Third service project

All attending to pull in together and completed all the available blocks. Great team work ladies!

Very little business was discussed. The one major business topic at the moment is for the next meeting, all members who want to participate in the Secret Sister Christmas Exchange please have your half yard ready if you all ready have not done so. We will be exchanging the bags with the half yard of fabric at the next meeting!  Also for the next meeting we will continue working on the third service project. Again please bring all supplies to complete this project.

Until next time...

Happy Quilting!

2013 - May 23rd Meeting

Second Service Quilt

Our May 23rd meeting was a productive meeting. First we do want to say thank you to all the ladies involved with making our second service project quilt. As shown above is the completed quilt top. We would also like to thank Chris Porter for being able to finish off the quilt with her long arm machine.

There was very little business to discuss except the passing out of the brown paper lunch bags for the Secret Sister Christmas exchange. If any member was unavailable to attend the May 23rd meeting and would still like to participate in the exchange please come to the next meeting with your half yard of fabric or contact Yvonne to receive a bag.

As for the rest of the meeting the ladies worked productively on accomplishing a third service quilt.

Workshop Meeting 5/23/13

Workshop meeting 5/23/13

Every one worked diligently while having a good laugh or too in each others company. When the meeting was over the blocks were nearly assembled and what was left over to finish was left up to the attending member to take home to complete and then to bring back to the June 12th meeting. A quick announcement and reminder to our member that the June 12th meeting will be a short business meeting. IT is asked of any attending members to please bring your sewing machines, rotary cutter, cutting mats, iron, and ironing boards.

Until next time....Happy Quilting Everyone!

2013 - May 8th Meeting

Our May 8th meeting was straight to the point in the following business proceedings.

We confirmed that we will have our annual quilt show on November 2nd at the Methodist Church here in New London. Hometown Holidays was discussed and there was talk about still needing to confirm a table for the Hielman Building. Also there was a brief discussion on what products to make to sell. We know for sure that small Christmas type items will sell, so if you are available to start in on your sale Christmas items go for it. As a reminder fabric companies are now releasing their current Christmas fabric lines to the public and are currently now available in stores.

Also we know its only May but before you know it September 26th will be here faster than you know it. Do you have your Pint Chips Challenge project in the works yet? If not what are you waiting on? Remember you have to keep it a secret of what you are working on until the reveal date of September 26th!

Our service project update: The second quilt for Eastmans is nearly completed. All it needs is the sashing and border added to it and then it can be quilted and bound. Which leads us to start on the next service quilt for the next workshop meeting. We will be working on making a jelly roll quilt (the Missouri Star Quilt Co. pattern) from the left overs of the second service quilt. This quilt will also be going to Eastmans once it is completed.

Also for the next meeting members will be receiving a small brown paper bag for the secret sister Christmas exchange. In this bag you will be placing a 1/2 yard of your own fabric to be exchanged for your Christmas gift. We have also decided to not only add your name to the bag but to add your style, ex: Country, primitive  modern, etc. Along with being interested in receiving items such as a table runner, place mats, small wall hanging, a purse and so on just to help your fabric receiver along in case they do not know you all that well.

While the business end of the meeting closed we then moved on to show and tell.

Rachenea had brought in a bag that she had made and embroidered.

Rachenea's Bag

Here is what the inside of that Rachenea's bag looked like! We loved that crazy black and white print Rachenea!

The inside of Rachenea's bag

Carol had brought in her Jelly roll block. We really loved the color combination for this block Carol! Also this block is what we will be doing for the next service quilt.

Carol's Jelly roll Block

Lastly Chris P. had completed a teddy bear quilt for a new arrival. Very adorable Chris. Brooke even thinks so too!

Well that is all every one until next time....

Happy Quilting!
