Well that Mother Nature is a fickle gal. Meeting is cancelled for tonight. Stay tuned for possibly an extra meeting scheduled before our next regular meeting on March 27th. Dang weather! Sorry to disappoint everyone, but the meeting for tonight is cancelled due to this crazy weather. But then, it's Ohio, right? Be sure to come to the next meeting and bring your machines and tools so we can work on the next quilt for Eastman's. We will also be finalizing the plans for the quilt show on March 29th. See you then!

This meeting was a work meeting. We made great progress on the last (possibly) of the service quilts for Eastman Funeral Home here in  New London.

It was decided to do a 16 patch in pastels with sashing, on point, using 2 1/2" squares. Everyone dug into their stash to contribute so many squares that it was mentioned we could do 2 quilts, which is now the plan.

At the next meeting we will be adding the sashing and possibly starting on a second quilt in this same pattern  and colors. If you couldn't join us for this last meeting plan on attending the next one on February 27th.  You know what they say, "Many hands make short work".

 

Reminder of the quilt show coming up on March 29th. If you can't make it to the meetings, contact another member for details. Anyone can enter a quilt to be shown, whether you are a member or not. There is no judging, so it's just a nice and relaxed show only.

With the frigid weather we've been experiencing, our first meeting of the year was short and sweet.

We started out with receiving the forms needed to display our quilts during the quilt show on March 29th.  The information that needs to be included will explain who made the quilt, how was it made, was it made for someone in particular and what the quilt pattern is called. We have plenty of forms left so don't forget to pick yours up at the next meeting. The quilt show will run from 10:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Methodist Church sanctuary. Set up time will start at 8:00 a.m. Please bring your quilts and forms at that time. The theme this year is "Stars Over New London" with quilts featuring star blocks in some way. Of course all quilts are welcome and encouraged. We would also like to have on display the paint chip projects that were made for last years challenge. If anyone knows of any quilters who are non-members of the quilt guild please invite them to also display their quilts.

Also it was decided that both meetings in February will consist of a short business meeting and the rest of the time will be spent constructing the last of our service quilts for Eastman Funeral Home. This is a smaller quilt in 2 1/2" pastel squares. Please bring your machines, irons, ironing mats and tools and be ready to sew. Let's get this finished up so we can move on to our next project.

Kim then asked if there was anything anyone was interested in learning or working on. It was suggested that we hold a workshop on making purses and also some members are interested in learning paper piecing.

Since we had so few attending, there was only a couple of show and tells, so we'll hold those for the next entry.

Meeting canceled for January 8th

Hi guild members, no meeting tonight as the schools in New London are closed for the day. But wait, there's good news, we're having a heat wave this weekend! About a 50 deg. difference than the last couple of days. Get out the shorts if you're brave. We'll see you at the next meeting on January 23rd. Quilt on!

December 11th Christmas Potluck

The New London Quilt Guild held their last meeting of the year with a potluck and secret sister gift exchange. Everyone agreed that they were not ready for the Christmas holiday and had a lot to do to prepare for the upcoming event. There were a lot of great eats and everyone was stuffed afterwards.

After the meal Yvonne reminded everyone that in January we will be forming different committees to plan out our activities for the upcoming year. If there is anything you want to have covered, please bring your ideas to the next meeting which will be January 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the First United  Methodist Church basement if available, if not we will meet upstairs. Another reminder is that the quilt show will be held on March 29th. The theme for the show is "Stars over New London". Minimum size for your theme quilt should be appr. 24" x 24". You may enter any size quilted project you would like for the general showing. More information will be available as this date gets closer.

For our gift exchange the theme seemed to be table runners or toppers galore, with a few other items thrown in for good measure. Enjoy the pictures.

2013 - November 13th meeting

Well where has this year gone? Members have been busy with their own projects and our service project quilts this past year.  Here is our third and final service quilt for Eastman Funeral Home. Good job everyone!

The meeting started off with Yvonne reminding everyone of the Hometown Holidays in New London on December 7 from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. We will have a table set up in the Heilman Building in Recreation Park. All members are encouraged to donate small, homemade items to be sold at this event. This is the way we raise funds for the upcoming years projects. If you are unable to have any items ready by December 6, the day of set up, we hope that you will consider making a small donation instead. If you have any questions, please give Yvonne or any other member a call. Set up will be Friday, December 6th, from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., please bring your items in that evening with a dollar amount you think they should be priced at. Remember, this to raise funds for our projects, so please price to sell. Final set up will be from 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. Saturday morning. The work schedule has been set but we can always use you for the clean up crew which will be after 2 p.m. and we have to be out of the building by 3 p.m.

The next item discussed was the Christmas potluck which is on December 11th at 6 p.m. in the church basement. Note that this is an hour earlier then our usual meeting time. If you plan to attend and haven't signed up for a dish yet, please leave Jennifer a message via our email here on the blog or via our Facebook page and let her know what you would like to bring. You will need to provide your own table service. Drinks will be provided. Also this is the meeting for our secret sister gift exchange. If you aren't involved in this, that's okay, just give Yvonne a call and she will let you know your alternative.
